The world’s first TRK (Tropomyosin Receptor Kinase) depressants, ‘Vitrakvi’ is now can be sold to the public in South Korea.
MFDS (Ministry of Food and Drug Safety) sanctioned Bayer’s (multinational pharmaceutical enterprise) 3 items of ‘Vitrakvi (a component of Larotrectinib)’ on May 11th.
The sanctioned items are Vitrakvi Sol, Vitrakvi Cap. 25mg, and Vitrakvi Cap. 100mg.

Abnormal ‘Fusion gene’ can be found in solid cancer rarely. A type of fusion gene, NTRK (Neurotrophic Tyrosine Receptor Kinase) appears in adults and children’s various cancers, and it creates modified TRK protein when fusing with different genes. This modified TRK protein is considered as a cancer-causing factor that expedites cancer’s growth and metastasis.
Vitrakvi prevents modified TRK from the mechanism, and it was available in Europe and the U.S. from last year.
South Korea’s MFDS designated ‘Vitrakvi’ as a 255th orphan drug last year.
MFDS sanctioned to use Vitrakvi to locally advanced with NTRK gene fusion without the known acquisition of resistance mutation, metastasis, or solid cancer in adults and children’s treatment when there is a high possibility of severe morbidity during surgical resection that has processed after existing treatment or there is no suitable treatment.
However, MFDS said, “It was sanctioned based on objective response rate (ORR), and there are no clinical trial results that prove clinical benefits like an increase in the duration of survival.
Meanwhile, MFDS gave Roche’s ‘Rozlytrek (a component of Entrectinib)’ permission to be sold in public alike Vitrakvi that targets NTRK as an anticancer drug last month.
