More than Half of Top Pharma Companies Increase Merchandise Sales

8 out of 13 companies increased...the average portion decreased slightly

[NEWSMP] In the first quarter, more than half of the top pharmaceutical companies saw an increase in merchandise sales portion. However, the average merchandise sales portion decreased slightly. (Based on separate financial statements)

Newsmp compiled merchandise sales portion through quarterly reports of top pharmaceutical companies with sales of more than 100 billion won in the first quarter among listed pharmaceutical companies that settled accounts in November and December.

Analyzing the sales of the top 13 pharmaceutical companies that reported merchandise sales in the quarterly report, the merchandise sales in 8 out of 13 companies increased from the same period last year.

In particular, all five companies whose merchandise sales decreased compared to the same period last year also saw a reduction in the portion of merchandise sales, while all eight companies whose merchandise sales increased also experienced a growth in the portion of merchandise sales.

Firstly, Yuhan Corporation had the largest merchandise sales at 299.4 billion won in the first quarter, followed by Chong Kun Dang at 141.2 billion won, Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical at 135.5 billion won, Jeil Pharmaceutical at 120.8 billion won, GC Biopharma at 111.1 billion won, Boryung Pharmaceutical at 106.1 billion won, and Daewoong Pharmaceutical at 105.3 billion won, marking a total of seven companies exceeding 100 billion won.

JW Pharmaceutical followed with 91.3 billion won, Handok at 62 billion won, Hanmi Pharmaceutical at 40.6 billion won, Dong-A St at 34.4 billion won, Huons at 28.7 billion won, and Dongkook Pharmaceutical at 23.9 billion won.

Dongkook Pharmaceutical had the lowest merchandise sales among the top companies, but its year-on-year growth rate was the highest at 45.0%.

Following Dongkook Pharmaceutical, Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical recorded a 35.7% growth, Boryung Pharmaceutical 25.4%, Hanmi Pharmaceutical 23.9%, and Huons 18.7%, all achieving double-digit growth rates, while Dong-A ST increased 9.1%, JW Pharmaceutical 7.1%, and Yuhan Corporation 2.0%.

On the other hand, Chong Kun Dang's merchandise sales decreased by 11.0% compared to the same period last year, followed by Jeil Pharmaceutical with a decrease of 9.1%, Daewoong Pharmaceutical with 7.6%, Handok with 6.6%, and GC Biopharma with 2.3%.

As for the portion of merchandise sales, Jeil Pharmaceutical was the only company to exceed 70% with 71.5%, and Yuhan Corporation was close to the 70% mark with 69.1%.

Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical and JW Pharmaceutical surpassed the 50% level with 54.3% and 51.2%, respectively, followed by Handok at 48.9%, Boryung Pharmaceutical at 47.8%, and GC Biopharma at 43.5%.

Chong Kun Dang fell back from the 40% level with 39.9%, followed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical at 35.5%, Dong-A ST at 24.5%, Huons at 21.7%, Hanmi Pharmaceutical at 14.8%, and Dongkook Pharmaceutical at 14.4%.

Compared to the same period a year ago, Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical’s portion of merchandise sales increased by 7.7%p, marking the largest increase, followed by Boryung Pharmaceutical by 4.0%p, Dongkook Pharmaceutical by 3.5%p, Hanmi Pharmaceutical by 1.7%p, Huons by 1.5%p, JW Pharmaceutical by 1.4%p, Dong-A ST by 1.2%p, Yuhan Corporation by 1.1%p.

Meanwhile, Jeil Pharmaceutical decreased by 4.9%p, followed by Chong Kun Dang by 4.1%p, Daewoong Pharmaceutical by 3.5%p, Handok by 3.0%p, JW Pharmaceutical by 1.3%p.

The combined merchandise sales of the 13 companies totaled 1.301 trillion won, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year, while the average merchandise sales portion decreased by 0.2%p from 43.6% to 43.4%.
