1,128 million in August 2020→1.356 million in August 2021… 228,000 workers, 20.2%↑

Over the past year, the number of non-regular works in the human health and social work activities industry has increased significantly.

According to the “August 2021 Additional Survey by Type of Employment of the Survey on the Economically Active Population” compiled by Statistics Korea on the 26th, non-regular workers in the human health and social work activities industry jumped 228,000 workers, or 20.2%, over the past year from 1.128 million to 1.356 million.

During the same period, it was the only industry to increase the number of workers over 100,000, and the increase was the second-highest after the information and communication industry.

The number of non-regular workers in the information and communication industry surged more than 50% from 121,000 to 183,000 during the period, 62,000 workers, but less than a third of that of the human health and social work activities industry.

In all industries, the number of non-regular workers increased 8.6% from 7.426 million to 8.066 million, exceeding 8 million.

Among the 17 industries, the number of non-regular workers in the human health and social work activities industry is the only one exceeding 1 million, and its proportion of all industries rose by 1.6%p from 15.2% to 16.8% in a year.

The proportion of both construction and business facilities management industries also recorded double-digit at 11.0%, but decreased slightly from last year, widening the gap with the human health and social work activities industry to more than 5%.

In particular, the number of temporary workers in the human health and social work activities industry increased by 225,000 from 953,000 workers to 1,117,800 workers, exceeding 1 million.

Temporary workers accounted for most of the increase (228,000, or 98.7%), and proportion also rose 2.4%p from 84.5% to 86.9%.

Part-time workers also increased from 716,000 to 890,000, and atypical workers nearly doubled from 320,000 to 570,000.
